We have started a new project (building an outdoor room), using a local builder, and just like with building a home in Charlottesville, there are many steps....
Part 1 is a plan. I started by looking at many of the homes in our market, taking photos, selecting materials and even drawing up the plans myself.
Well we are off to the races and the progress is going along nicely.
THE DECK PRIOR TO STARTING
Part 2 is "Demolition" you see our old deck was made of pressure treated material and stained several times. Now it looked ok, but I was tired of the work and since we decided to add an outdoor room. Now was the time for a change.
So demotition begins:
THE FIRST BOARDS ARE REMOVED...
THE BUILDER HAS THE PLAN!!! (and a watchful eye)
This step really only took a couple of hours and the deck was removed and we had a clean slate. Now the real work begins, we start to work on the structure....
Stay Tuned!!!

Hi Charles, how exciting!!! I am looking forward to the next pictures.
Barbara, they are working so fast, I have missed several shots I would have liked to get. But I am not complaining :-)
Can't wait to watch this progress. Good luck with the building.
Paddy - more photos to come!
Now the budget and the surprises come up. good luck.
Charles,
Coolness ! Keep us posted with the outcome. Im sure with your plan everything will go smooth !
The Somers
Charles, We converted our deck to a sun room and what a difference that it has made. It has turned into the 'family' meeting place. You will enjoy it...
Charles- Shucks, I was scrolling down waiting (oh, I'm so darn impatient) for the finished product. Guess you've got the making for a future post (or 2 :-). Improvement is sooo much fun...maybe give the builder your camera....grinning!
Hi Charles...I love to see changes even when it is someone else's home.
Have fun.
Kate
Charles, this is always fun to me the reusing of current place. It gives me a new feel to the house.
Charles I recently really enjoyed the play by play of Elizabeth Winetraub's remodel of her kitchen. I really find thing interesting. Will be coming back for more!
Charles - really exciting, I can't wait to see, the next step.
Charles, how about some shots of the whole house? This looks great...they can put the deck at my place by the way. :-) Later in the rain~Deb
